When you feel like you are coming down with the flu, what do you do? Do you go to the drugstore and buy an over-the-counter medication? Or do you go to the hospital? Or, knowing that there is not a cure for the flu, do you prefer to wait for the virus to run its course? Do you regret not having gotten vaccinated prior to the flu season? Or do you go to a local Dahn Yoga center?

Health is best maintained on a daily basis. In order to do this, one must have a clear and intimate understanding of the basic principles of how health is maintained in the body. By intimate, I do not mean an intellectual understanding. Rather, we must know our own body like we would know a loved one.

Taking care of ourselves, being in charge of our lives, is a way of saying we are worthwhile, an acknowledgment of our self-worth. We must awaken to the many inherent sensibilities and sensitivities of our body and be able to feel when we are moving toward health or away from it.

The first priniciple we must understand is our innate healing power. Our role as master of our body is to facilitate and enhance this process. I believe we should adopt natural self-care methods to prevent and treat common illnesses, thereby managing most daily health concerns. Our breathing, our body itself, and the life energy which flows through it become tools once we understand their principles and the basic skills for applying them.

Meridian exercise from Dahn Yoga is one of the most effective self-health management skills. These exercises have a low risk of side effects and are effective, inexpensive, and easily learned and used.

Meridian exercises taught in local studios are based on Dahn Yoga principles and techniques. Dahn Yoga provides an integrated training method that combines deep stretching exercises, meditative breathing techniques, and energy awareness practice to reach optimum health. As founder of Dahn Yoga, Ilchi Lee has systemized and developed new methods for the past twenty-seven years. Dahn Yoga strengthens the body and its natural healing power by strengthening the fundamental life force. Meridan exercise is basic Dahn Yoga training as well as a comprehensive health regimen that enriches the spirit while bringing health to body and mind.

To use this book, first look through the table of contents and identify your particular symptoms. Then find the corresponding exercises to relieve your symptoms. The exercises of Dahn Yoga not only reduce painful symptoms, but also enhance overall health to aid in disease prevention. You may individualize your exercise program according to your particular needs.

It is most important to physically practice meridian exercises regularly. None of the mothods presented here will help you unless you experience them in your body. Dahn Yoga’s founder Ilchi Lee says, “I believe that consistent practice of meridian exercises can help maintain our health in the optimal state.”

Now we have over 360 centers in Korea, United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Brazil, and Japan. Over 1 million people around the world are practicing Dahn Yoga and Brain Respiration. Brain Respiration is a system of brain-based meditation techniques that seek to awaken the deepest potential of the human brain. Brain Respiration and Dahn Yoga will not only bring health to your body and mind, but will also allow you to develop your own innate human value without resorting to material means.

Despite its worldwide presence today, Dahn Yoga started out with one student in a local park in rural South Korea. In 1980, Ilchi Lee went to a local park and helped a half-paralyzed stroke victim gain back his health and confidence. We at the Dahn Yogas always try to stay true to our roots, sharing health and joy with those in need in various areas of our community.

Our members and instructors are an integral part of the community that they serve. Do you have an effective and enjoyable method to stay healthy and maintain a balanced life? The origin and history of Dahn Yoga

The roots of the Dahn Yoga Practice extend several thousand years back into Korean history. It began as an ancient Korean training program to educate the population on how to develop both mind and body. It was practiced on a daily basis with the intent of maintaining health and developing potential power to become ideal humans. Dahn Yoga contributed to the mental and physical well-being and political unity of the Korean people.

Up until two thousand years ago, this educational method was practiced and transmitted by wise men to each generation. However, the Korean people failed to keep the Dahn Yoga tradition alive. The Dahn Yoga tradition was rediscovered by Ilchi Lee through his own journey into self-realization and rigorous self-discipline. He took the traditional system and modernized it. He began teaching Dahn Yoga at the public parks in South Korea to anyone who was interested in the exercises.

In 1985, Ilchi Lee opened the first Dahn Center in Seoul, Korea. Since that time, the program had expanded throughout the world with 360 centers offering Dahn Yoga training to over 1 million people. The tradition of offering exercises continues in 2,000 public parks in Korea and other countries.

What is Dahn Yoga?

Dahn Yoga is the study of life energy, based on the authentic mind/body training of ancient Korea and recreated for contemporary times by Ilchi Lee. “Dahn” means energy, vitality, and origin of life, and “hak” means study, philosophy, and theory. Dahn Yoga is the study of energy (Ki, Chi) and how to use it to regain true mastership of life by restoring mind/body communication.

Dahn Yoga practice is scientifically designed to work every muscle, tendon, joint, organ and gland, while moving fresh, oxygenated blood throughout the whole body. It teaches practitioners to experience their Ki- energy and balance the flow of energy within their bodies. The conscious action of focusing Ki-energy inside their body tends to stimulate their innate natural healing power. This enhances the abilities to deal with environmental stress.

Dahn Yoga helps people lead a healthy life by activating their energy system. It also enriches their emotional life by increasing creativity and sensitivity. And finally it helps them make their life significant by awakening to life’s truths. Dahn Yoga practice has over 5,000 years of history as an ancient Asian training art. It has been modernized as the name of Dahn Yoga to integrate body, mind and spirit into one, through stretching, breathing, and meditation.

“Ki” is the Korean word for cosmic vitality that is the true essence of every creation in the cosmos. It is also known as “Chi”. Most people begin their understanding of Ki-energy by experiencing it as bio-energy or the vital life force in the body. Ki-energy is the connection between the physical body and the conscious mind. When practitioners learn to control the Ki-energy in their bodies, they begin to understand that they have control over their bodies.

In the Orient, people have understood this energy and have used it in various fields such as oriental medicine, the arts, politics and culture for thousands of years. Recently, much scientific research has been conducted on studying the sources and power of life force energies. Dahn Yoga systematically teaches awareness of Ki-energy and how to integrate its use into daily life. With an increasing awareness of Ki-energy and connection to it, we can easily travel into our inner world. It helps us to recognize this energy as the ultimate source of all life and thus realize our true nature, that is, our true selves.

Healing ourselves and others

Alberto M. (Texas)

Looking back at my diary I realize I made much progress after the first of the month (January 2001) when watching the candle and doing the exercises seemed so difficult.

February was a month of much frustration and disappointment with myself, but also of much reflection and learning. It opened the door for the progress that followed.

The months of March, April, and May brought clear progress as I was able to watch my candle much more easily and release much more stale energy during the exercises.

During the Dahn Yoga exercises, I started to meditate deeply and have important insights and perceptions that actually materialized a few weeks later.

I also realized, looking back at my diary that I seemed to have a clear energy cycle within the month with low-energy during days 15-20 when I tended to catch colds or sleep badly. I am not sure if this is relevant, but this is usually the period just before the full moon.

Watching the candle helped me much in realizing the negative emotions that keep surfacing. The aggressive attitude of competition has been a frequent issue. Also my insecurities and feelings of inadequacy.

I also realize that insights and good perceptions come from very deep, but I am still mostly surrounded by emotions and thoughts that bury such intuitions and insights which surface only occasionally. I hope that More Than Body will help in dealing with these.

Recently, Alberto shared with me the following:
I have been practicing Dahn Yoga for a little over two years now. I have also taken Initial Awakening, More than Body, and Reintegration. I have also attended Ilchi Lee’s two Healing Chakra Seminars.

I started the program in the old center on Gessner Rd. I was having sleeping problems mostly due to stress and frustration. I walked past the center a couple of times and decided to come in. It started a process of change that went much beyond sleeping which by the way has improved 100%. I am now focusing in on what my vision for the future is and how to actualize it.

Stress Relief and Dahn Yoga

Joan L (Memorial, TX)

Approximately 16 months ago I walked into the Dahn Yoga Center to find out about their yoga and Tai chi classes.

Upon entering this center I was immediately greeted with such warmth and friendliness, that I instantly enrolled in a class!

From that day onwards I can honestly say that I have experienced a huge change in my life, both physical and mental. Participanting in these class ( I go 3 times a week in the evenings) has been a positive life-enhancing experience for me.

I am a full time real estate broker which is an extremely high stress-related profession, and I was looking for an outlet to balance my life.

Since attending these classes I have been able to cope with stress relief, mental stability and learned how to relax. My energy level has increased substantially and I feel so much better physically.

I have learned about the body—the mind—and spirit

A couple of months ago I had the pleasure of enrolling in a class of Ilchi Lee. This was a wonderful enlightening and educational class that gave me a much better in-depth understanding of the use of energy and how to apply it.

I look forward to continuing to learn about how to cope with and hanle my daily life and how to eliminate stress and negative emotions

I can highly recommend the Dahn Yoga practices with my appreciative thanks.

A burnt-out, old CPA’s transformation

Mary M. (Mesa, Arizona)

When I started Dahn Yoga about 1 year ago, I was the most tired, oldest and burnt-out 26 year old you would have ever met. I hardly smiled and when I did it was only to hide physical and emotional pain. Although, I was never officially diagnosed, I was definitely suffering from depression. I can see that now. I worked very hard trying to become somebody that mattered. I spent two years obtaining my CPA and worked 10 ~ 12 hours a day as an accountant. Just like everyone that walks this planet, I was searching for happiness. Money, boyfriend, house, car, nice outfits, you name it, I was working very hard to obtain these things. I always experienced these tremendous highs to these unbelievable lows and a feeling of incredible loneliness.

I thought, this is it, this is as good as it gets. My family provided much joy, but there again, I was looking on the outside. Then I met Dahn Yoga. This is where my freedom began. During my first few classes I experienced chest breathing. It felt like breathing for the first time. My whole body ached as the tension started to release. During tea time, after the class, I could hardly sit up straight due to the pain in my back, neck and shoulders.

After about 6 months, I felt like I hit bottom. I started to become so confused about my life. I was ready to run. The instructor started to talk to me about healer school; he started calling me Healer CPA. I would just laugh and walk away. He is crazy, was my thought. I started to become more and more irritated by the idea; I would ask myself, what is a healer anyway?

I received an opportunity to see Ilchi Lee. The entire experience was fantastic, nothing I had experienced before in my life. I was impressed with Ilchi Lee, and the beauty of the landscaping as we drove through that area of Arizona. Later that week, I was lying in bed, and I suddenly felt this wave of energy that moved from by abdomen to my chest. I couldn’t believe what I was feeling, but then I felt it two more times. That was my confirmation? I was going to an advanced workshop of Dahn Yoga. My first test was getting off of work for a week, with 4 days notice. I couldn’t believe how much I was supported. The courage started to build. The rest of healer school came with many more tests and challenges.

Healer school prepared me for the Shim Sung (self-discovery) program and it became one of my biggest breakthroughs. Each one, I came out stronger and a more sincere person. I started to love the person I was becoming for the first time. Now that I am about to graduate from the advanced healer school program, I can hardly believe the transformation from the person I was 7 months ago.

Now, I am able to answer my own question, I know what a healer is, and YES, I AM A HEALER! Thank you.
